“A widow’s life is not all sadness, for rising out of the depths of loss can be new growth. While the grieving continues, these possibilities seem remote; and it would be cruel to mention them. Later, though, when the mourning has begun to spend itself, a widow begins to ask, “What next?”

Our Mission

Like the story of Elisha, who helped the widow to recognize the value of what she had, we too endeavor to help widowed men and women rediscover and renew the treasure found within.

The Widow’s Treasure offers a touch of compassion by hosting activities that promote emotional wellbeing
and continued vibrant living in their process of rediscovery and restructuring their lives.

Sometimes it takes a moment. It’s a difficult decision to step out and meet others in the process of restoration and renewal in finding hope again. But from the very first time attending a Widow’s Treasure event, they’re sure to know that “it’s the beginning of the next chapter and not the end of their story.”

                      - Kathy Christopher  (guest speaker)

“This is not the end of the story for us.  Why? Because we’re still here!  While our husbands’ and wives’ missions are completed –

WE FINISHED THE RACE BY KEEPING THE VOW.

But this isn’t the end of the chapter for us . . . God has more.”

            - Lezlie Porter (Host – "Finding Treasure" Luncheon)

Our Story

Our Story

On April 20th, 2013 twenty widows of various ages and ethnicities gathered to share a special moment on a beautiful spring day that embraced the newness of their journey.

The luncheon was entitled, “Creating New Possibilities”.  The guest presenters were Tammy Gibson, along with Terri McFaddin and Charles Solomon, a newly married widow and widower.

Little did we know that day the predestined handprint and impact of our organization.

Vision

The following year, we hosted our first “An Evening With Friends”, centered around Valentine’s Day, a tender moment of reflection in the lives of most widows and widowers.  This annual event continues to be a favorite, and is always set in a pleasant atmosphere with great ambiance and good food.

For the past ten years we have held a variety of events with opportunities to experience music, inspirational speakers, line dancing, tea rooms, cinema, one-on-one lunch meetups, and other uplifting moments of widow-to-widow, heart-to-heart conversations, as well as many moments of personalized care. Identifying the treasure that remains within.

Widowhood crosses all racial and social barriers, bringing together people from all walks of life. One of the greatest challenges is connecting with new circles of friends.

No matter the amount of time that has passed, whether recent or long ago – and no matter the age whether young or old – it should never be experienced alone.

The nurturing, yet vibrant atmosphere surrounding each of our events encourages widows and widowers in the season where they are, creating new possibilities that help them uncover the hidden treasure within themselves that may be dormant or forgotten.
